Details of the polling arrangements for the European, local and byelections to be held on June 5th were announced this evening.

Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government John Gormley said polling stations will be open from 7.00am to 10.00pm on Friday, June 5th.

The electorate is to vote on both European and local elections on that date.

Byelections will also be held in the Dublin South and Dublin Central Dáil constituencies to find successors for Seamus Brennan and Tony Gregory.

Mr Gormley said he has nominated Maurice Coughlan, a principal officer in his department, to be the chief returning officer for the European election.

The Minister added that the Litter Pollution Acts have recently been amended to introduce a time limit prior to elections from which posters may be erected.

Posters for the European and local elections may only be displayed from May 6th.

Posters for the Dublin byelections may not be erected until the Polling Day Order has been signed. Mr Gormley said this is likely to happen during the second week of May.
