Leading loyalist paramilitary Johnny Adair has been arrested in jail and questioned about a gun attack at the height of a bitter feud with loyalist rivals.

He was taken from Maghaberry Prison, near Lisburn, Co Antrim, and questioned at a nearby police station by detectives investigating a shooting attack in August 2000.
A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Prison Service confirmed that Adair had left the jail where he is serving a 16-year sentence for directing terrorism.
Adair, commander of a notorious Belfast Ulster Defence Association unit, was sent back to jail on the orders of the then Northern Ireland Secretary Mr Peter Mandelson because he had broken the terms of his early release under the Belfast Agreement.
