The first week of the post-Christmas sales at John Lewis have got off to a flying start with sales up by 8.2 per cent to £77 million sterling in the week from December 27th through till January 2nd, 2007.

"In keeping with the theme of tumbling records, we took more money on the first day of clearance than we have ever taken before and at £18.3 million this was 10 per cent ahead of the first day last year," said Gareth Thomas, director of retail operations at John Lewis.
