Chicago-born Sandke, above, returns to Dublin next week, bringing his accomplished trumpet to bear on the mainstream jazz idiom that is both a reflection of his stylistic interests and a condition of touring life for a jazz musician of the mainstream persuasion. But he is rather more than just that; as someone whose influences include not only Armstrong and Buck Clayton, but also the great bop player, Clifford Brown, he can fill his solo work with harmonically more adventurous playing than the idiom normally commands.

He will be heard in Mother Red Caps net Tuesday, courtesy of the Dublin Jazz Society, backed by a local rhythm section.
