A chronic addict who was "ruthlessly exploited" by drug dealers when released early from jail, has had the balance of his 6 1/2 year sentence reimposed by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

However, Judge Cyril Kelly agreed to the suggestion by Mr Felix McEnroy, defending, to review the matter on February 5th, 1998, to give the defendant a chance to tackle his addiction.

David Reid (29), of New Street, Dublin 8, was jailed in March, 1994, after he pleaded guilty to a large number of robberies committed in 1992 and 1993 in which a syringe, a hammer, a slash hook and a knife were variously used.

Mr McEnroy said Reid's received no drug treatment after being jailed. When he released he was "ruthlessly exploited" by drug dealers.
