Brussels - Pop star Michael Jackson cancelled a concert in the Belgian coastal town of Ostend yesterday because of his shock at the death of Princess Diana, a spokeswoman for his record label said.
"[Jackson] said he would have a difficult time performing and did not want to do the concert because of her sudden death," Ms Hannelore Van Staen of Sony Epic Belgium said.
Up to 60,000 people had been expected to watch the concert at Ostend's Hippodrome.
Jackson has been staying in Paris but Ms Van Staen could not confirm a report he had been at the Ritz Hotel where Diana and friend Dodi al-Fayed dined together shortly before their fatal crash.
