EDINBURGH - A remote Scottish island celebrated Christmas yesterday, refusing to recognise the Gregorian calendar adopted by the rest of Britain in 1752.
Foula, about 30 km west of the Shetland Isles, is the only place in western Europe still relying on the Julian calendar. For the 75 people of Foula, it was still December 25th.
