An Irishwoman has been appointed to a senior EU diplomatic role in Japan, the European Commission has announced.

Maeve Collins will be the new deputy head of the EU delegation in Japan. The delegation represents European economic and political interests there.

Ms Collins is now the Irish Ambassador to Vietnam. She has previously worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Finance and was the director general of the International Fund for Ireland.
