Irish teenager in US faces death penalty

A 15-year-old Irish youth could face the death penalty unless he confesses to involvement in a murder and robbery at a delicatessen on Long Island earlier this month, New York police have told the boy's mother.

Robert Bright, from Dunboyne, Co Meath, is being held under suicide watch at County children's shelter. His lawyer, Mr Anthony Colleluori, claimed yesterday that police bad threatened him with the death penalty if he failed to co-operate. Bright emigrated to the US in 1993 with his mother and brother. He is charged with shooting and killing the assistant in a storeroom.
