A fund established to promote media coverage of development aid projects has been renamed in honour of the late Simon Cumbers, from Navan, Co Meath, who was killed during an assignment for the BBC in Saudi Arabia in June 2004.

zThe Media Challenge Fund, sponsored by Development Co-operation Ireland, a division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, has been renamed as the Simon Cumbers Media Challenge Fund.

Simon's widow Louise Bevan welcomed the initiative and said as an experienced journalist and cameraman, he wanted to make a difference by telling the stories that needed to be told. The fund assisted over 100 projects during the last three years
