The Irish Cancer Society’s annual fundraising day, Daffodil Day, was officially launched today.

Daffodil Day, which is to take place on Friday March 22nd this year, was launched by President of the European Parliament Mr Pat Cox. Also at the launch were RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan, Fair City’s David Duffy and Omero Mumba, younger brother to pop star Samantha Mumba.

The Irish Cancer Society announced at the launch that it is to expand its night-nursing service, which is funded by Daffodil Day.

The five nights of free care currently available for critically ill patients with cancer at home will be increased to seven, and nurses will now be available for ten hours overnight. The service will also be expanded to include other times during the day, to cater for particular needs.
