Irish wholesale prices increased by 0.2 per cent in May, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
This compares to an increase of 0.7 per cent recorded for May of last year.
The annual percentage change showed a decrease of 2.2 per cent in May, which compares to a decrease of 1.8 per cent in April.
The CSO said the price of energy products increased by 13.4 per cent in the year since May 2004, with petroleum fuels increasing by 12.9 per cent.
But in May, there was a monthly decrease in energy products of 1.0 per cent and a decrease in petroleum fuels of 3.9 per cent.
The price of building and construction materials increased by 4.7 per cent in the year since May 2004.
The most notable yearly changes were increases in bituminous emulsions (up 14 per cent), other concrete products (up 9.1 per cent) and structural steel (up 8.2 per cent).
Building and construction material prices increased by 0.3 per cent in the month.
