An Irish pro-Palestinian activist was arrested by Israeli troops near Nablus in the West Bank today.
Mr Salah Afifi (25) an architect from Ranelagh in Dublin was detained during a protest with Palestinian civilians and international activists at Huwara Junction checkpoint.
It is claimed a number of the protestors were assaulted during the arrests. Eight other foreigners were also detained.
Mr Afifi is under arrest in a Jewish settlement and is expected to be transferred to Ramle detention centre before being deported.
He is a member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and has been in the region for two weeks. The ISM says it is a non-violent direct action campaign against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.
Another Irish ISM member, Mr Colm Breathnach, is currently staying in a Palestinian house in Al Farrah refugee camp in protest that it is marked for destruction by the Israeli army.
