Police are investigating a possible IRA attack on members of the RUC and British army after a family was held captive in west Belfast.

The incident happened on Sunday night near Woodbourne RUC station where men, claiming to be from the IRA, took over a house at Glengoland Parade.

The husband and wife, and their three children aged two, eight and 14 were herded into the living room at about 9 p.m. About two hours later the family reported hearing a loud bang.

There were no reports of any injuries.
