IRA holds talks with de Chastelain commission

An IRA representative has had new face-to-face talks with General John de Chastelain's decommissioning body, an IRA statement said tonight.

After announcing last week that the IRA would re-enter talks, it confirmed a meeting had now taken place "to set out the basis for discussions".

The statement said: "The IRA has honoured its commitments and will continue to do so."

There had been no contact between the IRA and the independent decommissioning body since June last year.
