An SDLP councillor in Derry claimed yesterday that the IRA was behind a foiled attack on the home of a man who is still recovering from gunshot wounds sustained in the incident two months ago.

Mr William Ward was shot in the legs at his home in the Creggan area by armed and masked intruders on March 26th, two days after men had fired shots over the head of his 15-year-old daughter.

SDLP Councillor Mr Jim Clifford, a neighbour of the Ward family, said Mr Ward had "gone into hiding" following another attack on his home on Sunday night.
