GARDAÍ ARE continuing their investigations into the deaths of two Bray firefighters who lost their lives in a blaze in a disused warehouse two years ago.

Brian Murray (46), The Green, Woodbrook Glen, Bray, Co Wicklow, and Mark O’Shaughnessy (26), Loreto House, Sidmonton, Bray, Co Wicklow, died during an attempt to bring a warehouse fire under control on September 26th, 2007.

Insp Noreen McBrien of Bray Garda station told a “for mention” hearing of a joint inquest into the two men’s deaths at Dublin County Coroner’s Court yesterday that the Garda investigation is ongoing and applied for a six-month adjournment of the inquest under Section 25.1 of the Coroner’s Act 1962.

The coroner, Dr Kieran Geraghty, granted the application and adjourned the inquests until a date in November.

Both Mr Murray and Mr O’Shaughnessy died of injuries related to the fire.

Speaking outside the court, Mary Murray, Brian Murphy’s widow, said the adjournments, which may continue for up to two years, are difficult for both families, but they accepted the need to “let the gardaí take what course is needed”. “It’s hard on the kids,” she said, speaking of the couple’s 13 children, one of whom is doing the Leaving Certificate this year, and another who is doing the Junior Certificate.
