The Garda Ombudsman Commission is nearing completion of its investigation into the death of an armed raider who was shot by gardaí.

Gareth Molloy from Lower Sherriff Street in Dublin’s north inner city was shot by gardaí after he ignored a warning to drop his weapon and confronted detectives on May 15th, 2009.

Gardaí had interrupted Molloy and an accomplice as they attempted to carry out a raid on a Group Four Securicor van delivering cash to an ATM at the Centra supermarket on Foxborough Road in Lucan.

Gardaí fired five shots at the raiders after Molloy failed to drop his weapon and he later died in hospital.
