Urosevac - International monitors yesterday opened an investigation into allegations that a mass grave had been found in Serbia's troubled province of Kosovo.

A team from the Kosovo Verification Mission, set up by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, went to the site of the alleged grave near Urosevac, about 30 km south of the regional capital, Pristina.

A spokesman for the OSCE, Mr Sandy Blyth, said the information had initially been received by the US Kosovo Diplomatic Observer Mission from the ethnic Albanian Kosovo Liberation Army, which is fighting for independence from Serbia.
