A postcard campaign has been started by the Irish Nurses Organisation (INO) to raise awareness of the problems with overcrowding in accident and emergency units.
The "Enough is Enough" campaign aims to reduce the number of people, particularly the elderly, on trolleys in emergency wards across the State.
The postcard will be available in A&E wards across the country; patients, their relatives and members of the public are being asked to sign them and send them to the Tánaiste and Minister for Health, Mary Harney.
The INO has said that despite the Minister's ten-point A&E plan, the crisis in emergency wards remains as bad as ever.
This is the second part of the campaign. Previously, nurses held lunchtime protests outside hospitals.
The INO keeps a daily tally of the number of people on trolleys across all the A&E wards in the State.
