The big-hitting American had experienced roller-coaster form at Loch Lomond for opening scores of 74, 66 and 77.

He announced his decision to pull out shortly before he was scheduled to tee off with New Zealand's Greg Turner in the final round.

Daly (37) winner of the 1991 US PGA championship and the 1995 British Open at St Andrews, is exempt from qualifying for next week's British Open at Royal St George's.
