Industrial production down 1.6% in second quarter

Manufacturing dropped 1.6 per cent in the three months to June, compared to the previous three months, according to provisional figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) today.

But the Central Statistics Office said production for all industries was 1.6 per cent higher in June than in June last year.

The "modern" sector, which includes technology and the chemical sector, showed an annual increase in production of 1.2 per cent. In contrast the "traditional" sector recorded an increase of 2.7 per cent.

Industrial turnover for manufacturing companies was up 8.3 per cent in the three months to June, compared to the previous three months. Turnover in June was 2.4 per cent higher than in June 2003.
