Industrial output rises strongly in August

Seasonally adjusted industrial production volume for the June to August period rose by 2.4 per cent on the previous three months, according to the Central Statistics Office.

Industrial production in August was 15.5 per cent higher than in the same month last year. The annual increase in the "modern sector", made of high-tech and chemical industries, was 17.3 per cent. Over the same period the traditional sector grew by 10 per cent.

Industrial turnover for manufacturing industries was up 2.3 per cent in the three-month period compared with the preceding three months. Turnover in August 2003 was 7.3 per cent higher than in August 2002.
