New Delhi - India's cabinet yesterday unanimously rejected an attempt by Jammu and Kashmir state for greater autonomy, setting the scene for a confrontation with the province's ruling party. The move scuttled a controversial plan - designed to cool a decade-old separatist rebellion in the state - even before it reached parliament.
Last month the Jammu and Kashmir state legislative assembly approved a resolution seeking to limit the government's powers in the areas of defence, foreign affairs and communications.
