Prisoner stabbed in Mountjoy
A Mountjoy prisoner who was stabbed in the neck yesterday was being treated in hospital last night. He may also have been stabbed several times in the upper body.
The prisoner was in the recreational area just after 6pm when the incident took place. He was taken to the Mater hospital. The 22-year-old Dublin man is serving a six-month sentence for carcrimes.
Body recovered at Howth pier
Gardaí are seeking assistance in identifying the body of a man recovered at the East Pier in Howth, Co Dublin, on Wednesday.
The 6ft man is in his mid-30s to early 40s, and is of heavy build with a fair complexion. His hair is slightly grey. He was wearing light blue Wrangler jeans, a light blue shirt, a dark green corduroy jacket and black shoes.

Concern over missing girls
Police in Newry, Co Down, and the families of two missing teenage girls are becoming increasingly concerned about their whereabouts. Police now believe the girls may have travelled to Dundalk.
Charlene Lennon (13) and Kathryn Edgar (15) have been missing since April 12th. Charlene is slim, around 5ft with blue eyes and black hair. Kathryn is 5ft 4in and of medium build. She was wearing jeans, a blue and white top and a scarf.

Five million cigarettes seized
Five million Palace brand cigarettes with an estimated street value of €1.7 million have been seized at Dublin Port. The cigarettes arrived in a container from Oporto, Portugal.
