Man seriously beaten up in Dublin city

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to a serious assault on a man in Dublin city early yesterday. Gardaí at Pearse Street are investigating the incident, which took place at Hawkins Street and Poolbeg Street at about 2am.

The man was assaulted and robbed by two men who ran off towards O'Connell Bridge. He is in a serious condition at St James's Hospital.

Gardaí search for missing girl (16)

Gardaí in Abbeyleix are seeking the assistance of the public in tracing the whereabouts of a teenage girl who has been missing for four days.

Amy Lawlor (16), Mooreville, Rathdowney, Co Laois, was last seen in Rathdowney on Thursday October 9th. She is described as being 165cm (5ft 5in) tall, of slight build with long black hair. When last seen she was wearing her school uniform, a grey shirt and green jumper with a red rim around the neck and a red school logo bearing the letters SFC on the front. Girl (2) killed on road in Newry

A two-year-old girl who was killed in a weekend road incident in Co Down was originally from Zimbabwe, police said yesterday.

Tatyana Jinga was hit by a white van and died a short time later in hospital following Saturday's collision in Hill Street, Newry.

Shortt attack man due in court

A man is due to appear before Ballyconnell District Court this morning on assault charges relating to the attack on Kristian Shortt (28) in Letterkenny, Co Donegal on Thursday night last.

Mr Shortt, a son of former nightclub owner, Frank Shortt, was stabbed 13 times in an incident in a Letterkenny apartment and is being treated in St Vincent's Hospital Dublin.
