Man in serious condition after assault
A man (34) was in a serious condition after he was assaulted in Dublin's north inner-city yesterday.
The victim was found injured on the street between a pub and the Gala supermarket at Summerhill Parade on Thursday night. From Ballymun, he was taken to the Mater hospital but later moved to Beaumont Hospital.
Gardaí have appealed to witnesses the incident to contact Fitzgibbon Street Garda station at 01-6668400.
Cannabis worth 1.6m seized
Over 1.6m worth of cannabis was seized and four men were arrested by gardaí and customs officers in Galway and Dublin on Thursday and yesterday.
An estimated €1.1 million worth of cannabis was seized in the search of a house at Loughrea, Co Galway. Two men were arrested by gardaí.
On Thursday, over 0.5m worth of cannabis was seized in Dublin. Two men in their mid-30s were arrested after gardaí and customs officers searched a truck on Broombridge Road, Cabra. The men were being detained at Cabra and Blanchardstown Garda stations.
Girl (13) claimed sex with 17 men
A TEENAGE girl kept a record in which she claimed to have had sex 22 times with 17 men when aged 13.
The girl, now 19, described to Donegal Circuit Court yesterday how she drew up a list of men’s names on September 18th, 2003.
She was giving evidence on the second day of the trial of a 34-year-old married man who denies six charges of sexually assaulting her between June 1st and November 30th, 2003. The case continues on Tuesday.
Smoky jet diverts to Shannon
A transatlantic jet was forced to declare an emergency and divert to Shannon Airport yesterday after crew reported smoke in the passenger cabin.
The pilot of Northwest Airlines flight 821 issued a may-day, contacted air traffic controllers at Shannon and landed at around 1.20pm.
The Airbus A330-323X carrying 285 passengers and crew was flying from Fiumicino in Italy to Atlanta. It got the all-clear and continued its trip at 4.10pm.
SF secures last council seat
The last county council seat in the country has been taken by Sinn Féin.
The result from the Belturbet electoral area of Cavan County Council came down to just one vote between two new candidates: Damien Brady for Sinn Féin and Seamus McGahern for Fianna Fáil.
