Woman (51) found dead in Waterford city

Gardaí in Waterford are not looking for anyone in relation to the death of a middle-aged woman in the city yesterday.

The 51-year-old woman was found on the floor of her bedroom in the city centre.

The house was sealed off and technical examinations were carried out. State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy carried out a postmortem at Waterford Regional Hospital.

The cause of death has not been released. Preliminary results of the examination found “nothing suspicious”.

Report on cancer misdiagnoses

The independent report into services at Ennis General Hospital arising from cancer misdiagnoses at the facility is to be published this week by the Health Information and Quality Authority

Ann Moriarty (53) died on April 25th last year after she was given the all-clear twice at Ennis General in 2007; Edel Kelly (26), also misdiagnosed, died last June. Minister for Health Mary Harney bowed to increasing public concern last September over the misdiagnoses to announce the independent review of services at Ennis General.

Sections of a draft report have been circulated to named parties in the report.

DPP sent file on strangled woman

A file is with the DPP in relation to the death of a woman found strangled in her home, an inquest heard.

Carmel Breen (57), Willow Vale, Ballybrack, was found at her home on November 7th, 2008.

A postmortem by State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy found that Ms Breen died from neck trauma as a consequence of gripping or manual strangulation.

Det Insp Eamon O’Reilly of Dún Laoghaire station told the Dublin County Coroner Dr Kieran Geraghty that he was applying for an adjournment of the inquest as the Garda investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí investigate fatal stabbing

Gardaí are continuing their investigations into the fatal stabbing of a man whose body was found in a Dublin lane, the Dublin Coroner’s Court heard.

The body of David White (35), New Cabra Road, Cabra, Dublin, was found at Mill Lane, Palmerstown, on September 26th, 2008.

Det Insp Peter O’Boyle of Clondalkin Garda station told the court that investigations into Mr White’s death are ongoing an adjournment of the inquest was granted.

St Patrick’s Day violence charges

Four men appeared in court yesterday on charges connected to St Patrick’s Day street violence in a student area of south Belfast.

Robert Austin (21), St Malachy’s Park, Camlough, Newry, Patrick McQuade (20), Rugby Parade, Belfast, and Charles McCauley (23), Carmorn Road, Toomebridge, Co Antrim, had their cases were put back for later hearings.

Damien McStravick (26), Parknasilla Way, Aghagallon, Craigavon, had a fine imposed.
