An inter-county hurling match has helped to raise more than €13,000 towards a 14-month old baby having a vital operation on her skull.

Little Zara Aylward was born with a rare condition known as cranial stenostosis and suffers from extreme headaches caused by pressure from plates in her skull fusing early.

Parents Clodagh and Kevin are attempting to raise €30,000 for an operation for baby Zara in London following an 11-month wait for treatment in Dublin.

“We’ve been amazed by the support shown for getting Zara to England,” said Clodagh.

“People were out on the weekend collecting with buckets and the response has been fabulous,” she said.

A total of €13,160 was collected at the Kilkenny Waterford National Hurling League clash on Sunday.

Donations for Zara’s operation can be made to AIB, The Quay, Waterford City, account: 10821005;
