Minister seeks to reverse Ennis rezonings

Minister for the Environment John Gormley has said that the Ennis area has been completely overzoned for housing and confirmed that he has written to Clare County Council to reverse rezonings carried out.

In adopting the Ennis and Environs Development Plan 2008 last December, council members snubbed Mr Gormley by ignoring his recommendations to dezone large tracts of lands.

Mr Gormley has already invoked special powers to amend development plans in counties Monaghan and Mayo.

James Taylor added to Cork gig

American singer- songwriter James Taylor has been added to the line-up for this year’s Live in the Marquee series of concerts, which is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors to Cork, writes Barry Roche.

Taylor will play the Marquee on July 2nd and joins a line-up which already includes Rod Stewart, Josh Ritter, Gilbert O’Sullivan, The Prodigy, Shayne Ward, Kasabian and Christy Moore. Tickets go on sale on Friday.

File for DPP over alleged rape

Gardaí are to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to a complaint by a 13-year-old girl that she was raped by a 17-year-old in a house in east Cork just before Christmas.

Detectives arrested the youth last week under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and brought him to a Garda station for questioning.
