Gardaí find cocaine worth €70,000 in car

A 25-year-old man was arrested in north Dublin yesterday when €70,000 worth of cocaine was found in his car following a search by gardaí.

The man's vehicle was stopped in Santry at 3pm yesterday afternoon and gardaí found one kilo of cocaine.

The Garda press office said yesterday that the seizure was not related to Thursday's seizure of 30kg of cocaine in Glasnevin. The man was being questioned at Santry Garda station last night.

Man charged over Orange march

Nineteen people have now been charged arising out of rioting on the Twelfth of July as Orangemen marched through Ardoyne in north Belfast.

The latest defendant - 18-year-old Michael Cooke, from Old Mill Drive, Newtownabbey - appeared at the magistrates court yesterday on a charge of riotous assembly and was remanded in custody.

SF rally to cause traffic disruption

Widespread traffic disruption is expected in Dublin city centre this afternoon with thousands expected at a Sinn Féin rally to mark its "centenary" year.

The four-hour event begins with a march from Parnell Square, leaving at 2pm, to the GPO where Gerry Adams will address the crowd at 5pm.

Traffic on the north quays will be diverted up Church St towards Bolton St, while traffic on Pearse St and the south quays will be diverted over Butt Bridge.

Traffic from the northside will be diverted via the East Link Bridge and Memorial Bridge. St Stephen's Green east will be closed to all traffic.

IFI's €2m for Border projects

Five Border counties - Donegal, Derry, Cavan, Fermanagh, and Louth - received a €2 million boost for cross-Border community projects from the International Fund for Ireland yesterday.

At a meeting of the IFI board an allocation of €374,000 was made towards the development of an educational and interpretative centre at Monreagh in Co Donegal.

Service to celebrate ageing

An ecumenical service to celebrate the spirituality of ageing will take place in Dublin's Pro-Cathedral next Thursday at 7.30pm.

It marks the beginning of Positive Ageing Week, sponsored by Bupa Ireland.
