JOHANNESBURG - There was a tense stand off between police and protesters in the KwaZulu/Natal town of Margate yesterday as several hundred armed supporters of the Inkatha Freedom Party demanded the release of six men arrested for murder, Edward O'Loughlin reports.

The men, all from the IFP stronghold of KwaXolo, had been arrested on Thursday in connection with a series of massacres in the area last year.
