THE Hungarian Prime Minister, Dr Gyula Horn, said in Dublin yesterday he agreed with the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, on the need for a concerted effort against drug trafficking across Europe.

Hungary has applied for membership of the EU and a drive against trafficking is a major theme of the Irish presidency.

Dr Horn, who was on an official visit to Ireland, told a news conference at the Institute of European Affairs that Hungary should be allowed early accession to the EU because of the considerable efforts it had made to make its economy ready for membership.

It should not have to wait until other economies had made similar efforts, he added.
