House completions rise 21% in six months

The number of house completions in the first six months of the year rose by 21

The number of house completions in the first six months of the year rose by 21.4 per cent on the same period last year, according to figures released today by the Department of the Environment.

The report reveals that 35,957 units were completed in the first six months of 2004, easily surpassing the record number of completions set last year.

The Minister for State at the Department of Environment, Mr Noel Ahern, described the level of completions as a "tremendous achievement".

For the first six months of 2004, house completions in Dublin, at 8,369 units, were up 25.6 per cent.

In the greater Dublin area - which encompasses Dublin city and county and counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow - 12,798 units were built, a 23.4 per cent rise on the corresponding period in 2003.
