The number of new houses completed last year reached a record figure of 49,182, says data published today.

According to the Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin, housing output rose by 7.1 per cent, the sixth consecutive year of increases.

Mr Robert Molloy, Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, said completions for Dublin increased - with 15,558 new homes built in Dublin, Kerry, Meath and Wicklow, a rise of 2.2 per cent on 1999.

The bulletin reveals house price rises for new and second-hand houses on a national basis were 13.8 per cent and 14 per cent, respectively.

Dublin increases for new and second-hand houses gained 12.5 per cent and 10.8 per cent between 1999 and 2000.
