The contents of the Killiney Court Hotel are to be auctioned on the premises by Buckley's of Sandycove on November 18th and 19th.The hotel is to be converted into apartments and all contents must be cleared. Most people have some memory of the hotel, which must be placed in one of the most attractive locations imaginable.

There is sure to be great interest in this auction which, according to Sean Buckley of Buckley's Auctioneers, will include everything from the flagpoles to the plant tubs, and all furniture and goods associated with hotel life.

"It's what we call a good old-fashioned auction," said Sean Buckley. "It's not Lissadell House, but a very good bread-and-butter auction where everything must go and there is no reserve."

The hotel has 86 rooms and, after the staff has their choice, there will be lots containing about 70 TVs, 70 kettles, 70 hair dryers and 70 everything else you might come across in a hotel room.

There is a fine pair of mirrors in the Coast Bar and some pieces of old furniture, but much of the fittings are what was popular in a hotel 50 years ago. For example, six, eight and 12-branch turned brass chandeliers.

The carpets are not included in the sale, but all the curtains are, including pairs to cover enormous windows. Also of interest is the table linen - most are good quality plain cotton damasks and linen in various shades of white.

The silverware and crockery might appeal to anybody looking for large amounts of matching pieces. There is an array of glasses, condiment sets, sauce boats, dishes, vases, trays, teapots, toast racks and egg cups. Also included are all hotel prints and paintings.

This is a sale which promises to be great fun as well as a chance to acquire some interesting bits and pieces as well as good serviceable furniture and an opportunity to see the hotel before it is gone forever from the public domain.
