Nairobi - One person was killed and 22 injured in an air raid on a hospital at Yei in south Sudan, a spokesman for the humanitarian agency, Norwegian People's Aid (NPA), said yesterday. Mr Chaat Paul said in Nairobi that on Sunday an Antonov bomber of Khartoum's air force dropped 12 bombs on the hospital in the southern town, adding that an NPA nurse was among the wounded.
Fourteen people required serious treatment.
Yei was taken over in February last year by the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) which has been fighting for 16 years to end Islamic domination of the mainly animist and Christian south.
