Horse taken into care as owner jailed

A horse was taken into care yesterday when its owner was jailed for contempt. Oliver Valentine Bolger, of Raphoe Road, Crumlin, Dublin, was sent to Mountjoy Prison after Judge Liam Devally heard he had failed to obey a court order about the stabling of his carthorses. Judge Devally was told that Bolger, described in the Circuit Civil Court as a scrap merchant, had travelled to court on a flat cart drawn by Dobbin. The horse and cart were tied up outside the court.

Judge Devally ordered that the horse be taken into the care of Dublin Corporation and that Bolger be returned to court next week.

Mr Anthony Hudson, whose home is next to Bolger's stables, had complained about the noise caused by horses kicking and stamping.

Following court proceedings, an order by consent had been made whereby the horses were to be kept away from the boundary wall of Mr Hudson's home. Bolger was summoned to court for alleged failure to comply with the order. He was jailed until Wednesday.
