A homeless addict who robbed the Divine Mercy shop at Dominick Street church has been jailed for 20 months by Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Mark Egan (21) is currently serving a five-year sentence for a syringe robbery. That sentence was imposed in December 2000. He pleaded guilty to robbing the church shop on July 23rd, 2000. Sgt Brendan Carroll said the shop was being closed for a tea break by a voluntary worker when Egan came in pretending to be looking for his mother. He asked the prices of various religious items and pointed to one behind the counter. When the woman went to it she was followed by Egan who pointed a screwdriver at her chest and made off with £140 cash as well as a mobile phone.
