Evidence for the defence in the High Court action by a child who suffers from cerebral palsy and is quadriplegic against the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin and an obstetrician is to open on Tuesday. The evidence called on behalf of Blaise Gallagher (6), from Moneystown, Roundwood, Co Wicklow, concluded before Mr Justice Quirke yesterday, the 20th day of the hearing.

Blaise, suing by his mother, Mrs Avril Gallagher, has taken his action against consultant obstetrician Dr Joseph Stanley and the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, where he was born on April 27th, 1992. The defendants deny negligence in the circumstances of the child's birth.
