HMV Group said it will start an online subscription service in September to allow customers to download digital music from its website, hmv.co.uk.

HMV customers will have access to a catalogue of digital music comprising nearly 100,000 tracks drawn from the repertoires of EMI, Warner Music and BMG as well as independent labels such as Telstar, Mushroom and V2.

The monthly subscription fee will be £4.99 sterling.

The music and books retailer, which floated in May, will offer the service in partnership with On Demand Distribution.
