DVD aims to keep elderly fit over winter

Keeping active over winter is difficult for most people, and even more so for older people.

A new DVD, entitled Exercises for Oldies, includes a home exercise programme that recognises and respects the ageing process.

Its creator, semi-retired orthopaedic consultant Hemant Thakore, demonstrates a series of stretches that he says are possible to do daily at home. Cost €19.

Wishing you an eco Christmas

Also at Cultivate on Saturday next from 6pm-10.30pm is the fourth night of the funky seomra.

Open to all ages, the non-alcohol dance event is held in the former St Michael and St John's church that adjoins the Cultivate building.

There's a specialist tea and smoothie bar, a chill-out zone with Budda bags for those who just want to watch. Admission €15/€10.

Cardiac memorial services

The Sudden Cardiac Death (in the young) Support Group is holding Christmas memorial services in Dublin and Cork this weekend.

The Dublin service will be held in Monkstown Church of Ireland Parish Church, Monkstown, Co Dublin on Saturday at 2pm.

The Cork service will be held in St Dominic's Retreat House, Innismore, Montenotte, Cork city on Saturday at 3pm.
