Information night on cancer screening

Cancer Screening – is it for you? is the theme of a public information meeting tonight at 6.30pm at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2.

The meeting, chaired by journalist Olivia O’Leary and addressed by medical specialists, will provide information on current screening programmes, BreastCheck and CervicalCheck, and look at whether new screening programmes for colorectal (bowel) and prostate cancer would be appropriate. Admission is free, but advanced booking is advised.

Teaching stress management

The Stress Management Institute is running a morning and evening course for those who wish to teach others how to deal with stress.

The experiential course, which begins on March 3rd, either at 10am or 6pm, will explore techniques to manage stress including breathing techniques, visualisation, meditation and cognitive restructuring exercises.

Workshop looking at grieving

Anticipatory grief is the experience of grief before death. The Irish Hospice Foundation at 32 Nassau Street, Dublin will host a workshop on this type of grieving on February 26th which will look at the implications of this form of anticipatory grief for family and friends.

Day treatment for addictions

The Rutland Centre in Knocklyon, Dublin is currently assessing people for a new day treatment programme for people with addiction problems.

The programme, which will include three sessions each week over 10 weeks, aims to offer a strong framework for individuals to look at the thinking and behaviour which keeps them trapped within the cycle of drug, alcohol or gambling addiction.
