QUALITY HEALTHCARE: Tomorrow is the closing date for entries to the first National Quality in Healthcare awards.

Awards will be presented by the Irish Society for Quality and Safety in Healthcare in five categories at its 10 th annual conference in September. The categories are innovations in the quality of patient safety; improving the quality of the patient journey; use of information tools; the promotion of patient participation in healthcare; and health service staff development. BONE UP ON OSTEOPOROSIS: A new website, www.breakingpoint.ie, highlights osteoporosis risk factors and offers information on this potentially disabling disease which affects one in three women and one in five men over 50.

The website features signs and symptoms of osteoporosis, preventative measures and lifestyle changes people can make to avoid the disease, and information on how osteoporosis can be diagnosed. The website is sponsored by Merck Sharp & Dohme Ireland (Human Health) Ltd.
