Lifestyle Q&A:Gina Walsh, singer

Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?

Yes, I think so. The trick for me is everything in moderation. Recently I’ve hit the gym to get fit and toned up for our upcoming concerts. You need plenty of energy to keep you going so that you give each concert your best.

How often do you exercise?

Aside from the gym, I’m so lucky to be living in Ballycotton with beautiful beaches and a magnificent cliff walk. My dog Harvey and I have a brisk hour-long walk four to five times a week. It’s also great for clearing my mind. I always feel refreshed afterwards.

Do you get your five a day?

Almost all the time. We’re a big fruit and veg family. We basically follow the Mediterranean diet. Both my children are vegetarian, so there’s never a shortage of fruit and veg in our house. To accompany the vegetables we eat brown pasta, rice, potatoes and pulses. I start the morning with porridge topped with banana and blueberries.

Do you worry?

My late mother always said I was a born worrier. As far back as I can remember and up to this present day, I still do. Recently, I’ve tried meditation and breathing, which helps. I’m always a bit apprehensive about doing concerts until the moment I step onto the stage and then all my fears just disappear.

What do you do to relax?

I walk along the sandy beach with the wind in my face and the sound of the sea rushing to shore. A few years back I joined a local art group and I love it. What surprised me most was the inner peace that I experienced while painting.

What do you consider to be your unhealthiest habit?

My biggest downfall is fresh, home-cooked bread. I cannot say no to it. I love going to restaurants and I have to admit I go straight for the bread basket first.
