Personal training is a booming industry in Ireland

Personal training is a booming industry in Ireland. It's no longer seen as an exclusive option for the rich and A-list celebrities.

"I've seen a huge increase in the demand for personal trainers over the last few years in the fitness industry," says Eugene Eivers, personal trainer at Westpoint gym in Blanchardstown, Co Dublin. "People have become more conscious of their health and more body conscious."

A personal trainer costs €40 to €60 an hour. This includes nutrition advice, a specifically designed workout programme and one-to-one personal attention either in a gym or in your own home.

Some trainers have extra qualifications such as sports massage therapy and Pilates. Trainers may also work in conjunction with a doctor or physiotherapist if the client suffers from an injury.

"Most people find it difficult to apply themselves so they need the assistance of a personal trainer to motivate them to exercise," according to Eivers.

"For most people, weight loss is a big thing," says Carole Kedney of Optimum Personal Training. "Most people are doing things wrong in the gym and in order to really make changes and change their shape, they need the close guidance of a personal trainer," she adds.
