Bangladesh's election loser and previous prime minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the caretaker government to nullify this week's election results by October 10th, saying it was rigged.

Sheikh Hasina's Awami League was defeated after winning only 63 seats in the election to a 300-seat parliament. Her rival Ms Begum Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and allies secured 202 out of the 283 seats unofficially declared.

Sheikh Hasina made the demand as police said at least three people were killed and 100 others injured in clashes between supporters of Awami League and BNP yesterday. The death toll in violence since Sheikh Hasina stepped down is around 300.

"We are asking the caretaker government to scrap Monday's election by October 10th which has been rigged." She said her party would begin a non-cooperation movement unless her demand for cancellation of this week's election result was met," she said.
