THE Progressive Democrats can double their number of Dail seats from eight to 16 in the general election, the party leader, Ms Mary Harney, predicted.
As pre election fever continues to build among the political parties, she said yesterday during a visit to Tullamore that Senator Cathy Honan would become the first woman to represent Laois Offaly in the Dail after polling day.
The choice for voters was between her party and Labour, she said. "The economic tidings might be very good, but people's quality of life has been damaged by higher levels of crime, by the ever present threat posed by drugs and by the increasing daily pressure that goes hand in hand with modern living," she said.
Her party believed in the work, ethic and wanted to see an end to the "money for nothing" mentality which had torn the hearts out of so many communities.
