Mika Hakkinen bounced back from McLaren's qualifying fiasco with the fastest lap in the warm-up for today's Austrian Formula One Grand Prix. Germany's Heinz Harald Frentzen was third fastest in hisJordan.

The Finn, who qualified eighth on the grid for the Mercedes- powered team, was quickest with a time of one minute 11.647 seconds, just ahead of team mate David Coulthard in 1:11.765.

Coulthard, second in the world championship standings behind Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, will start alongside two-time champion Hakkinen on the fourth row of the grid.

Schumacher, who starts on pole, was fifth fastest after switching hurriedly to the spare Ferrari. The triple champion's car ground to a halt near the end of the pit lane with a flicker of flame coming from the rear left exhaust. Mechanics pushed it back to the garage.

But the problem did not appear too serious as the German switched back again later in the session.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who starts alongside Schumacher on the front row, was 16th fastest in his Williams - one place behind his team mate Ralf Schumacher.

The Benettons of Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and Briton Jenson Button were the slowest cars on the track in the warm-up.
