Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain was today studying a huge list of grievances presented to him by the Orange Order.
A delegation from the Protestant marching order handed Mr Hain a 50-page dossier detailing concerns when they met in Belfast last night.
Among issues they raised were their continuing concerns about restrictions on parades, attacks on Orange Halls, feelings of marginalisation within the Protestant community and the rule within the Police Service of Northern Ireland that membership of the Orange Order has to be notified.
Democratic Unionist party leader the Rev Ian Paisley organised the meeting and accompanied the Orange delegation which was led by Grand Master Robert Saulters.
A spokesman for the Order said: "We reminded the Secretary of State that the Orange Institution is the biggest cultural organisation within the Protestant community and encompasses all opinion within unionism.
"It has strong support right across Northern Ireland, illustrated by the fact that between 400,000 and 500,000 people attend the 12th every year."
Mr Hain said he would read their document and return to them with responses on issues raised.
Describing the meeting as definitely constructive, the spokesman said: "We are determined that all of the issues which we raised will remain on the government agenda."
